Bite Me, Baby

No matter how many teething toys I buy, I never seem to have one on hand for my 7mo son when he needs it. Not until I got ahold of Smart Mom Teething Bling Jewelry. These silicon bangle bracelets and pendants stack on like funky accessories for a fashionable mom. Or dad. Or sibling. My whole family has been wearing this jewelry.  Now when the baby starts to fuss and lunges drooling at a cellphone or keys, we are prepared. My son adores these, and will chew on them for astonishing lengths of time. Fortunately It's a lot easier to carry a stack of bangles on your arm throughout the day, than a bag full of toys!

Go Racing with the Family

When most people think of Motorsports, the thoughts either run from glamorous Formula 1 cars, the Prime-time excitement and personalities of NASCAR, or modified stockers running around a dirt track in the middle of nowhere.  Spectating big races is certainly a family affair, but one doesn't get the vibe that participation is.  To those with some knowledge of the sport, racing is widely regarded as a rich man's game, but neither of those assumptions has to be true.

I have spent a weekend at Summit Point Raceway the past two summers helping crew for (read: watching) my good friend Chris Ridgley race his 1991 Honda CR-X Si in the ITA class.  This is SCCA regional amateur racing, under the MARRS  chapter, and they have 8 races per year.

Improved Touring racing is one of the least expensive classes to enter. Cars must be 7 years old or older, and run the gamut from shiny BMWs to old Rabbits and Datsun Z cars. On a typical SCCA weekend you are likely to see more Miatas and RX-7s than anything else. You won't see any big-name sponsors, if you see any at all. Chris estimates he has about $17,000 tied up in his CRX, but he had the car built himself. Most people buy race-ready cars of other racers. $10,000 will buy you a car ready to compete mid-pack.

Despite the amateur nature and friendly atmosphere, the racing action is very exciting. I enjoyed watching the Spec Racer and Formula Ford heats the best, along with Chris' ITx race.

Most everyone brings their families to camp at Summit Point, and my daughter Stella was happy to spend the day playing with friends in the back of Chris' Pilot.  To a man the other car owners were friendly, approachable, and willing to talk about (and try to sell you) their race cars.

As we were heading across White's Ferry back into Maryland, Stella exclaimed it was the "best.day.ever!" and while I think that might have been for my benefit, I'm confident she'll have just as much fun next year.

Here is a full gallery of photos from our trip, but be warned, I'm far more amateur of a race photographer than Chris is a driver.

Remote Car Starter and Security System Benefits Breast Cancer

It's pink, its perfect for families, and sales benefit Susan G. Komen for the cure. It's the Viper Responder  LE Special Edition 2 way Security and Remote Start System. This nifty device was featured this morning on The View. Wish your car had a remote start feature like more expensive models? Saddened by your vehicles lack of theft deterring security systems? No problem. It's not cheap at $499 but it's a lot cheaper than a whole new car. Famililes in hot and cold climates will particularly apreciate the ability to start the car (and the AC/heater) before hopping in.

Fleurville Changing Kit Goes Everywhere You Need It
By: Car and Caboodle    8 days 5 hours 55 minutes ago
Channel: Lifestyle Parenting Baby Family

Three cheers for Fleurville for making a water-resistant, well organized and compact changing kit, the Re-Run Mod Pod . I can toss this kit into my pool bag or car trunk without any hesitation whatsoever.

I am loving the design, which is earth friendly to boot – made with their signature “re run” fabrics (my changing kid saved 3 bottles from a landfill) and their Green Lam PVC free fabrics. The kit is attractive enough to carry on it’s own, either as a clutch or handbag/mini messenger with the included strap. Unfold it and you are treated to a laminated changing surface alongside a triplet of compartments (two mesh, one fabric) that hold all your changing essentials. Depending on how you position the bag the compartments can sit be on the right or the left hand side of the baby, making this the perfect choice for both righties and lefties. The outside has a handy zippered compartment where I can stick a little cash and my pool card or other essentials.

This is the perfect little kit for beach and pool but when we finally accept that summer is over I am sure I will find a hundred other ways to use it. Hang it on a stroller for a quick park trip, toss it in the glove compartment for changes on the go, or just keep it loaded to make switching between purses and diaper bags a breeze. Any way you use it, a kit like this is a definite mommy must have and a thoughtful shower gift for any mom to be. Purchase yours at Fleurville's webstore.
