Sneak Peek: Frost/Nixon
By: GlamBuzz    1 days 8 hours 6 minutes ago

I’m typically not interested in political dramas, but I am SO looking forward to seeing Frost/Nixon. It looks phenomenal. (And the stage script is amazing.) Plus, it’s a Ron Howard film … so that’s a guaranteed hit. (Honestly, every time I go to Universal Studios and check out the Backdraft attraction … I need to run home and watch the movie.) But I digress, Frost/Nixon hits theaters on Dec. 5th. I plan on seeing it this weekend. So, I’ll give you the scoop next week!

For three years after being forced from office, Nixon remained silent. But in summer 1977, the steely, cunning former commander-in-chief agreed to sit for one all-inclusive interview to confront the questions of his time in office and the Watergate scandal that ended his presidency. Nixon surprised everyone in selecting Frost as his televised confessor, intending to easily outfox the breezy British showman and secure a place in the hearts and minds of Americans.

Likewise, Frosts team harbored doubts about their boss ability to hold his own. But as cameras rolled, a charged battle of wits resulted. Would Nixon evade questions of his role in one of the nations greatest disgraces? Or would Frost confound critics and bravely demand accountability from the man whod built a career out of stonewalling? Over the course of their encounter, each man would reveal his own insecurities, ego and reserves of dignityultimately setting aside posturing in a stunning display of unvarnished truth.

Frost/Nixon not only re-creates the on-air interview, but the weeks of around-the-world, behind-the-scenes maneuvering between the two men and their camps as negotiations were struck, deals were made and secrets revealedall leading to the moment when they would sit facing one another in the court of public opinion.

Oprahs Thrifty-Chic Holiday

Oprah and her gratitude box.

Oprah revealed her favorite things for the holidays on today’s show. And it was fun, fun, fun as always. But this year, the generous queen of TV put a twist on the annual holiday celebration. Instead of promoting cars! and Uggs!! and refrigerators!!! … Oprah is encouraging gifts from the soul — cheap, chic, heartfelt, and recession-friendly gifties you’ll love to give and receive. After all, it really is the thought that counts.

Gratitude Boxes. Construct this gorgeous, festive box using bows and cranberries and stuff it with tokens, mementos, and sweet, caring notes from loved ones.

Yvonne and Dean's 12 Dates of Christmas.

The 12 Dates of Xmas. I LOVE this idea. This couple wrote into Oprah explaining their favorite holiday tradition. Instead of giving each other gifts, they go out on twelve exciting, fun, and intimate dates (ice skating, dining out, baking cookies!). So sweet.

The Story of Edgar Sawtelle

The gift of a good read. We all know Oprah loves a good book. She suggests giving friends and family one of your favorite books. It’s also a special bond you can share. Plus, it gives you something to chitchat about.

Kick Start to Yuletide Cheer
By: GlamBuzz    6 days 12 hours 3 minutes ago
Channel: Celebrities Glam Editor Blogs

If you live on the West Coast than you know how weird it is to experience the holidays in 90 degree heat … I’m used to brisk weather, snowflakes, Ugg boots, and hot chocolate to get me in the seasonal swing of things. I need all the extra holiday cheer I can get this year!

If you, too, are in the LA area, and need a little yuletide boost, then take a trip to the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on Dec. 11 at 7:30 P.M.

The Thanksgiving Day parade scene from the 1947 classic Miracle on 34th Street.

There, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a newly restored print of the Oscar-winning Christmas classic Miracle on 34th Street. The 1947 classic stars Maureen OHara as the cynical Macys executive whose equally skeptical eight-year-old daughter (a young Natalie Wood) is intrigued by the stores seasonal Santa Claus, who may or may not be the real thing.

Miracle on 34th Street won Academy Awards for Actor in a Supporting Role (Edmund Gwenn), and earned a nomination for Best Motion Picture.

Tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID, and may be purchased online at www.oscars.org, in person at the Academy box office or by mail. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The Samuel Goldwyn Theater is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills. All seating is unreserved. For more information, call (310) 247-3600.

Maybe I’ll see you there. I’ll be the chick wearing a Northface jacket, wool hat, and leather gloves, sipping from her steamy holiday Starbucks cup.
