Anorexia is the popular term for the eating disorder Anorexia nervosa, in which people starve themselves. People suffering from anorexia are usually very skinny but are convinced that they are overweight. Anorexia often begins around the onset of puberty. Weight loss is obtained by many ways – excessive exercise, laxatives, and starvation. The emphasis on being thin in the entertainment business has contributed to many models, actresses, and singers battling anorexia. One of the first high-profile cases was the singer Karen Carpenter, who died at the age of 32 of cardiac arrest caused by her eating disorder. Other stars who’ve admitted to suffering from anorexia include Fiona Apple, Victoria Beckham, and Mary-Kate Olsen.
