Essential fatty acids are fats that the body can’t make itself and must be obtained from diet. The two classes of EFAs are omega 6 and omega 3. They are essential for important functions such as creating structural material for cell walls, providing protective padding for organs, maintaining body temperature, and making nerve coverings. EFAs also make prostaglandins, hormone-like substances that regulate body functions such as the cardiovascular, reproductive, immune, and nervous systems. Omega 3 is found in hemp seed, flax seed, pumpkin seed, walnuts, dark green leaves, canola, soybean, and cold-water fish. Omega 6 is found in hemp, soybean, walnut, pumpkin, sesame, corn, sunflower, and flax.
