Fat burners are pills that contain herbal ingredients such as Ephedra, HCA, Chitosan and Pyruvate, all of which claim to increase energy, stimulate metabolism, and/or suppress appetite. Fat burners may work in three ways: by helping the body break down body fat; by suppressing appetite; or by inhibiting the body from absorbing fat during digestion. Fat blockers don’t work if a person isn’t eating fat, or is overeating protein or carbohydrates. The negative side effects of fat burners include stomach discomfort, diarrhea, and inability to absorb fat-soluble vitamins and nutrients. They may also interfere with the effectiveness of certain medications, especially birth-control pills and estrogen.
