Hypoglycemia, also called low blood sugar, occurs when blood glucose (blood sugar) levels drop too low to provide enough energy for the body’s activities. Glucose, a form of sugar, is an important fuel for the body, and can be found in many carbohydrates. Hypoglycemia isn't a disease itself but an indicator of a health problem. Eating frequent small meals throughout the day is one way to keep blood sugar levels from getting too low. Hypoglycemia can arise from many causes and can occur at any age.
