Vitamin B9 (chemical name: Folic Acid)

B9 helps with cell division, strengthening arterial walls, the maintenance of healthy blood, and the growth of the nervous system of fetuses. Excessive alcohol consumption can stop this vitamin from working. B9, or folic acid, can be found in nuts, eggs, green vegetables, starchy vegetables, fruit, beans, whole grains and liver. A deficiency of folic acid on an unborn baby may increase the risk of the baby being born with spina bifida and other serious defects of the nervous system. Deficiency in adults may result in fatigue, acne, a sore tongue, cracking at the corners of your mouth. Long-term deficiency may result in anemia and osteoporosis, as well as cancer of the bowel and cervix.
